Why Formatting Mistakes Cause Publishing Delays

Most publishing platform rejections aren’t about the writing at all, they’re about technical formatting: margins too narrow for the trim size, a missing bleed on a full-page image, inconsistent heading styles, or an ebook file that doesn’t navigate correctly on certain devices. Print formatting has to account for fixed trim size, margins, and page layout that stays the same on every printed copy. Digital formatting has to account for reflowable text that adjusts across devices and screen sizes. We format each edition to its own requirements rather than applying one layout to both.

Front matter usually includes a title page, copyright page, and table of contents, and depending on your book, a dedication or foreword. Back matter can include an author bio, acknowledgments, or information about other books you’ve written.
